In a thrilling match, Nigeria emerged victorious against co-host Australia with a score of 3-2 in the Women’s World Cup on Thursday.

Australia narrowed the gap to one goal in the 10th minute of stoppage time when Alanna Kennedy scored a header, but Nigeria held on until the final seconds and claimed one of their best victories in global championships.

With this win, Nigeria now stands at the top of Group B alongside Canada with four points, ahead on goal difference. The eleven-time African champions knocked out Ireland in their last group match.

Nigeria’s head coach, Randy Waldrum, expressed his pride in the team, saying, “I’m extremely proud of them. I told them after the match that no one believes in us except ourselves. We believed we could do great things together, and they proved it.”

Almost 60,000 people gathered at Brisbane Stadium on Thursday, with the majority hoping to witness Australia secure their place in the knockout stage.
